David Espinoza, Ph.D., P.E., the originator of the DNPV method, earned his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from Purdue University in 1993 and has provided consulting services in geotechnical design and risk modeling for over 25 years.  In the last decade, he has focused on support of acquisitions and transactions for infrastructure investments.  He was Principal Investigator on a 2005 National Science Foundation (NSF) funded research project “Environmental Risk Management and Quantification Using Real Options,” which involved development of an integrated framework using option pricing theory to estimate the value of contaminated properties by considering private risk (i.e., environmental) and market risks (i.e., real estate) associated with property clean-up and redevelopment.  The NSF project sowed the seeds for what burgeoned into the DNPV method.

Dr. Espinoza is a Senior Principal at Geosyntec Consultants in Washington D.C. where his professional focus is on financial risk analysis and risk monetization for infrastructure and geoenvironmental projects. He has been at Geosyntec over 26 years working in a variety of areas including renewable energy, solid waste, mining, and transportation.

Javier Rojo, collaborator in the development DNPV method, has a Master's degree in Civil Engineering and holds an MBA from New York University’s Stern School of business where he was a Fulbright Scholar. He has over 25 years of experience in engineering, project finance, and project and business management. Javier worked as a management consultant for Price Waterhouse Cooper and as a corporate finance specialist for the Lehman Brothers Corporate Finance and M&A team. He worked as a investment manager at Climate Change Capital (the largest carbon credit fund) for over 15 years focusing on renewable energy and waste management infrastructure projects. Javier founded Quantum Waste (a vertically integrated waste management company run by scientists, engineers and climate change investment experts) and Sustainability Strategic Advisors Ltd (a boutique London-based consulting company that provides tailored advisory services to investors and developers of real assets combining both engineering and finance expertise.
